It was in an earlier thought to discuss the advantages when a living creature has consciousness. It may give evolutionary advantages an objective advantage to having it. However, a living creature can exist without consciousness, so it is not a necessity. It is not a necessary part of life. Moreover, it is not a necessary part of the universe either.
However, there is an undeniable and unique consequence of the consciousness: with it, the matter is able to recognize its existence. Yes, this is a subjective approach, because why the matter should recognize its existence. No objective reason for that. However, consciousness is the only way to achieve this. And we can ask this subjective question: what for the universe if no way to recognize its existence? Consciousness is not a necessity for the universe. The universe can exist as existed before its creature which made by its matter. But without recognition. How perfect is our material world to be capable of achieving this! We must appreciate it.
If you are reading this, you have consciousness. A bunch of matter, which is capable of recognizing what is, what are. You may sometimes ask yourself, why am I? And you may not find a satisfying answer. However, something is given to you, given to a bunch of matter. Beyond all the struggle, beyond all the suffering and pain which comes with life (still not forgetting all the joy and amusement either) something unique is given, a capability to recognize what exists. Our bunch of matter have, we have this unique feature. To recognize and to marvel at our universe that is capable of creating structures that can recognize itself and what are outside. The matter can create consciousness from itself to marvel to itself, to marvel to a perfectly created world. To a world with God or without it.
This is the undeniably unique reason to worth - with all of its obstacles - to have life, worth living.
